Biography
| Peggy Rains launched her career
in 1998 after being heard by a man who has a good ear and eye for country talent. Ray
Bingham, along with Red Steagall, had earlier recognized the potential of another Oklahoma
redhead named Reba McEntire. When Bingham heard Peggy Rains, smooth-as-honey alto, he was
impressed and encouraged her to pursue larger opportunities. Soon after that meeting Peggy
went to the studio and released her first album "It's A Good Day". Success came
to Peggy like a whirlwind, placing her on all types of stages from the Las Vegas Casinos
to the legendary Ryman Theater she has happily met each chall Its A Good
Day met with great success both locally and internationally. Reviewed in the Country
Music People, a magazine published in London, it received a four star rating. The album
also received favorable reviews from Country Music News, of Canada and other publications.
Peggy soon followed with the release of her sophomore album Living the Dream
which included a guest appearance by Oklahoma's own Billy Parker. This release also
received great reviews. With songs from both albums topping the indies charts in Europe it
became apparent that Peggy had something audiences wanted to hear. She was recognized in
United States by the Academy of Western Artists who awarded her the Will Rogers Award for
Western Swing Female Vocalist. After the Fact, a song co-written by Peggy and
her producer Joe Bob Barnhill, topped the indies charts in both the United States and
Europe, and was nominated for Western Swing Song of the Year by the Academy of Western Art
In the fall of 1998 Peggy was opening a show for David Frizzell, and was invited to sing
the Shelly West part of his hit duets with him. The audience approval was splendid,
Frizzell was so impressed that he asked Peggy to record some songs with him. The same
magic occurred in the studio, which led Frizzell to include four of the new duets on his
new CD, David Frizzell 2001. |
